ok so i've made some progress, thanks it's running nice and smooth, but the extruder is now stopping half way through the first layer no noise not grinding the motor just stops driving any more suggestions since the last one worked to well

It is happening with both extruders?

Confirm that the line 81 in the file Configuration.h file of the firmware is uncommented (#define hBp_TMC2208all).

I can't say i've previously damaged the tube that feeds the filament on E1 and still not got around to repairing it. I have un commented the required line and only that one line no other changes. E0 was working perfectly before, i've tried to raise and lower the 1.2v to 1.15 and 1.25 with no effect and reduced pressure on the feed bearing also but no change half way into first layer it just stops no fuss no noise no jerking just stops turning

Hello, I have 3 tmc2208 to fit.
I was planning on just fitting to the X Y AXES only, and leave the original 8825 in the Z axis.
Does anyone know if this will be ok?
The firmware states 2208 all or extruder as choices.
I only want to improve xy noise.

Hello Halford, I have tried it and the improvements on the X Y axis are mostly the reduction of noise while on the extruder they severely improve the extrusion consistency leading to much smoother walls on the prints, if you can just change all the stepper drivers to TMC2208 or you could send an email to the customer service and they might be able to add support to what you want on the firmware :)

Also changing the Z steppers reduces most of the scheeching sound the printer makes while standing still.

Mr. Doom, thanks for your reply.
If you leave the 8825 in place for the Z axis will it do any harm or overheat.
Does the 8825 function as normal even though you have the firmware set to use 2208?

Hello, I think there may be a problem due to the ammount of steps/mm for the Z axis and the direction of the motor moving, both of which can either be corrected on the firmware, you could ask customer service for a firmware specific for that, or on the machine itself by adding M92 Z8000 to the start Gcode and reversing the Z motor plug if necessary :)

Hi, I'm also thinking of switching to TMC2208. And from what you have said here, I think I'm going to go ahead with this option, does anyone who already has them can tell me a place or site to buy them? I've been browsing the net, ebay, ... but I do not know if it will be good to buy and I'm afraid I'll be buying and getting stuck.

Thank you

Hi TiagoA,

I really recommend you to buy them on the watterott electronic store (German).
On the ebay you can find those cheaper but don't expect the same performance.
