Upgrade Filament extruder

Post by mark.peterson » 27 Feb 2019, 01:42

We have 3 x Bethefirst printers at school, we have constant issues with students leaving the filament in the printer spool tube after printing and it snaps off. We have pulled one off and created a coat hanger option to feed directly into the extruder. Our filament is getting up around the 5 year old mark.

Can you upgrade the extruder and change filament to one that is more resilient?

Hello Mark,

You can simply print the external spool holder available here:
http://beeverycreative.com/download/Sup ... ine_V5.stl

Remove the top cover of the machine,it's handle and the PTFE tube from the extruder, locking it with a ziptie on the corner of the machine, place the cover back on, then the printed part will fit on the edge of the cover allowing the spool to stay on top of the machine and much more accessible, allowing faster load, unload and maintenance.

This should solve most of your problems with the machine.
As you mentioned your filaments are really old, it's expected lifetime after removing from the vacuum bag is around 1 year in optimal storage conditions, so your filament will be much more brittle than it should and can cause printing issues.

Best regards
