Filament

Post by qinglian » 06 Oct 2017, 09:29

Hi, I have one black filament which I open about one year ago. However, just now when I try to use it , it snapped . I would like to ask if there is any way to save it or do I need to purchase a new filament? Thank you.

Hello,

You could try using the filament with the external spool holder available on beesoft, that you use with the printer's handle removed, that way you avoid having to use the PTFE tube and the filament should be less likely to break.

If that doesn't work the filament might be too brittle to be usable.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. I have already purchase a new one.

May I ask, how long can I keep once the filament is open?

Thank you.

No problem, glad to help :)

If kept on a dry box, a sealed box with desiccant, it should last up to a year, but I think 6 months is a more realistic estimate. If kept unprotected, aka exposed to the environment, depending on the humidity where you live it might only last a month before the print quality is significantly worst/becomes brittle.

For example you can see how to build a dry box here:
