Enclosing the printer

Hello,

In printer's specs is indicated:AMBIENT OPERATING TEMPERATURE 10ºC-30ºC (50-86ºF).

What are the risks or problem if we enclose the printer for VOC filtering purpose?
Will electronics be damaged?
Or will the frame be slightly deformed?

Thank you in advance.

Hello Gni,

As long as the temperature inside the enclosures is maintained withing the operational range all should be okay, the filtration will not affect the machine.

If you want to use the printer at hotter temperatures if bellow 45ºC you will only need to remove both the electronics and power supply from the enclose as at those temperatures the electronics are prone to overheating and either shutdown until they cool down or in a worst case scenario breakdown due to overheating.

For temperatures above 45ºC you will need to reprint the printer's 3d printed parts as the original ones are PLA. I would recommend using ASA as a replacement as it can withstand up to 90ºC. Again as with the previous option, both the power supply and motherboard will need to be removed from the enclosure.

As an additional warning if used in a hot enclosure(>35ºC) the filament feeder is more prone to grind filament as the filament becomes softer, this is specially important for PLA.

Best regards

Dear Domingo,

Thank you for the clear answer.

About moving the electronic away from the frame: would you recommend to maintain the ground between the metallic frame and the pcb?

Thank you in advance.

Hey Gnii,

Yes you should place a wire between the power supply chassis and the frame to ensure it has proper ground in the unlikely event something goes wrong :)

Dear Domingo,

It sounds obvious but having a confirmation is still good :D

Thank you again.

Best regards.
